Policy:
Dynamic Consulting offers secondary e-mail services as a support to customers with their own offsite e-mail server. This service will hold and eventually deliver mail to your server if your server would become temporarily unavailable. This service is ideal for e-mail servers that do not have dedicated Internet access or those with regular dial-up access.
Requirements:
In order to take advantage of this secondary e-mail service, you must have the following:
a. Your own offsite e-mail server
b. A static IP
c. A domain name
d. Server must respond to ICMP (ping) requests
Explanation:
Dynamic will list your mail server as the primary mail server in DNS and will list Dynamic Consulting's mail server (mail.dycon.com) as the secondary. Whenever your mail server is available, arriving e-mail will be routed directly to your server. Whenever your mail server is unavailable, arriving mail will be accepted and held by our server. Every five minutes our mail server will check to see if it is holding mail for your server and if your server is available. If your server responds, your mail will be forwarded from our server to yours. If your server is down, our mail server will continue to collect, hold, and try to deliver your mail. This service will not expire as a queuing system does, but will continue to accept mail until the established quota is reached.
Benefits:
This will allow customers with their own e-mail server the added security of knowing that they will be receiving their mail even when they are not connected to the Internet. Providing secondary e-mail will allow you to take your mail server offline for maintenance without having time-outs or bounces occur. You will not need to do any configuration on your end (etrn or turn). You will have full control of e-mail addresses, alias, etc.
Responsibility:
Dynamic Consulting is not responsible for your e-mail server (ie: configuration, management, technical support, etc.) Dynamic Consulting does NOT allow for Relaying. Please refer to our E-mail policy regarding relaying.
Cost:
$15.00 per month for 30 megs of storage space;
$30.00 per month for 60 megs of storage space;
$5.00 for each additional 30 megs (above 60 megs)
Recommendations:
During the time your mail server may be unavailable, your users may check for mail and find none. Depending on when the mail server comes back online, mail for that same user may be delivered minutes after they had previously checked their mail. Because your server does not receive any held mail immediately upon logging in, it is best to set your connection idle time for 6 minutes or more and to brief your users to check and recheck (or automatically check) mail after the mail server has been offline.
