Speed
- ISDN 128 is a digital 128k/sec connection from you to the Internet with no affect by phone line noise or other encumbrances. The lag time to connect when you open your browser is greatly reduced. It is almost instantaneous. No squealing modems handshaking and negotiating your connect speed. You get 128k every time!
Security
- The ISDN router can be configured with NAT (Network Address Translation/IP Masquerading) which does not have a static IP-address assigned to it from your service provider. This allows you not to have a permanent location on the Internet for Hackers to infiltrate. It is based on the same principle as your analog modem dialing in and receiving a randomly assigned address. The line from you to the Internet is only open when you send a packet request to an address outside of your LAN. Because of the unique routing configurations, the outside world cannot see past the ISDN router into your network. There is the additional advantage that the ISDN router can contain it's own FireWall for added security.
Cost
- For most LAN environments it is more economical to have a single high speed access port to the Internet rather than separate phone lines and dial-up accounts for each work station. There's no need for separate modems at each terminal. It could cut the cost as much as half even for a small office network.
Scalability
- The LAN could easily be expanded from two users to fifty users with no additional cost.
